Salman Khan’s mammoth hit of 2010 Dabangg has won the award for Wholesome Entertainment at the 58th National Film Awards announced in New Delhi on Thursday. The film which went on to net over Rs 140 crore at the box-office also happens to be Khan’s brother Arbaaz and sister-in-law Malaika Arora’s debut production venture. Arora said, “When you start working on a movie, you do wish it wins awards apart from making money at the box-office. And National Award is a prestigious recognitionÖ” Habib Faisal, director of Do Dooni Chaar, which won the Best Hindi Feature Film award, said initially he did not believe the journalist who called to give him the news. He said the National Award win was “yet to sink in”.The Best Actor and Best Actress awards went to regional cinema, and that too with two winners in each category. While Malayalam actor Salim Kumar (for Adaminte Makan Abu) and Rajnikanth’s son-in-law Dhanush (for Aadukalam in Tamil) shared the Best Actor honours, Mitalee Jagtap Paradhar (for Baboo Band Baaja in Marathi) and Tamil actress Saranya (for Thenmekru Paruvakkaatru) shared the Best Actress Award.Malayalam film Adamante Makan Abu also won the Best Feature Film Award while Tamil filmmaker Veetrimaran won the Best Director honours for Aadukalam.Best actor award winner Salim Kumar said: “Being mostly seen as a comedian, I approached the role very seriously.I even asked the director whether he was sure he wanted to cast me. But the director’s response was that what he wanted was to make a good film.
