Eight years after her last television venture, Hema Malini will return to the small screen after Diwali. The veteran actor-producer-director who has made five shows — three in Hindi (Nupur, Women Of India, Aap Ki Saheli) and two in Marathi (Songti and Umberta), is currently making Maati Ki Banno for Colors.
Based in central India, Maati Ki Banno revolves around a mother and her son, faced with adverse circumstances. Via Roy Choudhury and Manoj Chandila (Laado) essay the main roles in the serial directed by Shyam Maheshwari.
A well-placed source reveals that the show, under the banner, Hema Malini Media & Entertainment, is slated to go on air later this November. “The shooting started with a 10-day spell in Mauritius. Currently, the shooting is on in a studio in suburban Mumbai,” informs our source.
Apparently, it didn’t take time for Colors to give a nod to Malini. We learnt that things between the channel and the producer were finalised in the first meeting.
Malini is also wrapping up Tell Me O Khuda, featuring daughter Esha Deol, Arjan Bajwa, Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna, which is scheduled to release early next year. Dharmendra is also playing an important part in the film.
While Malini was unavailable for comment, her brother Mohan Raghavan, who’s co-producing the show, also declined to speak on Maati Ki Banno. We tried contacting Ashwini Yardi, the programming head of the channel, but she didn’t revert to our text message.
