She calls Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan family, but Shweta Tiwari doesn’t want to flaunt the connection. The Delhi girl, who is set to hit the silver screen with Bhindi Baazaar Inc. married Gauri’s cousin Rustom Tiwari in March last year, with SRK in attendance.
But Shweta doesn’t want him to give her an easy way-out in Bollywood. “Right now, I don’t want his help. He is a self-made person, and has created a place for himself in the industry minus a godfather. It inspires me to earn respect with my own work. Though I haven’t asked him for help, he has very kindly offered assistance,” she adds.
When visiting Mumbai, Shweta has stayed with the Khans quite often and calls them “great human beings”. “I am quite close to SRK, Gauri as well as the kids. So if I have talent and manage to prove myself, I think he’ll offer me work on his own,” she says.
These days, Shweta, who’s trained at Anupam Kher’s acting academy, would rather focus on Bhindi Bazaar Inc. “I play Simran, a simple girl,” says Shweta, who was also seen in Apoorva Lakhia’s 2007 dud Hide & Seek. “But I would call Bhindi… my full-fledged debut because I acted in Hide & Seek only because I was friends with the director.”
She admits that she picked up the tricks of the trade from co-stars Deepti Naval, Kay Kay Menon and Piyush Mishra. “Initially, I was a little scared about irritating them since they are superb performers. But they were really helpful,” reveals Shweta.
