Amitabh Bachchan’s day, date and time to return to the tube has finally been fixed. The fifth edition of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), produced by Siddhartha Basu’s Big Synergy, will go on air on Monday, August 15 at 9 pm. Till then Sony Entertainment, the show’s broadcaster, is busy revamping the superstar-anchor’s chalet at Film City’s floor No 16. KBC will take up the time slot that will soon be occupied by Farah Khan and Anu Mallik’s reality show, Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega 4.
A channel official, on the condition of anonymity, confirms, “Everyone likes the date because it has a great vibe. August 15 gives everyone a feeling of national pride. And of course, the nation loves Amitabh Bachchan. So, there can’t be a better day to flag off the show. But if there are technical glitches, we’ll be forced to push the date.” Registrations for the show open tonight at 9 pm and the first question Big B will ask revolves around the song, ‘Sheila ki jawani…’. Ten questions will be asked up to June 5, ranging from politics and sports to common and traditional knowledge, followed by auditions and written tests.
Then, a string of 15 to 20 promos will be aired in combinations till the show goes on air. KBC 5 may have 42 to 60 episodes, making it longer than season four. Danish Khan, head of marketing, Sony Entertainment, says, “We’re gearing up for the auditions right now. Promos have been shot.” Meanwhile, the enthusiastic host recently said on his blog, “Some interesting stills and acts for the AV have been designed and shot. KBC goes on air soon, perhaps by August. It’s also of a longer duration. Whether in film or TV, it’s the promo that makes the difference. I really do not think it to be improper at all.”
