Mahesh Bhatt Has ‘Murder’ On His Mind

It’s been about 11 years since he last directed, but Mahesh Bhatt is hardly itching to step into director’s shoes again. For him, cinema is all about exploring real subjects and fresh faces. He has explored almost all genres possible, and is right now working on a series of ideas with his creative team, which he’ll announce January next year.

Mahesh Bhatt Has 'Murder' On His MindHis latest hard-hitting film Chandu that was mired with controversy over JNU students doubting the veracity of a possible biopic on their popular leader Chandrashekhar, is at scripting stage now, and will go on floors soon after.

Right now Bhatt has ‘murder’ on his mind. There has been a lot of speculation about the much-awaited sequel to Mallika-Emraan starrer. Bhatt, however, is not willing to spill the beans so easily.

“Murder 2 will go on the floors next month. Cast is almost finalised. We will make the formal announcement soon,” says Bhatt.

So has Imran Zahid, who’s also playing the lead in Chandu, bagged a role in the film? Says Bhatt, “I don’t want Chandu, where he’s playing the author-backed role, to get affected. We will take a decision on this.”

According to reports, actresses like Jacqueline Fernandez, Bipasha Basu, Sonal Chauhan are being considered for a role in the film. Emraan Hashmi is also supposed to be one of the lead actors.

Mahesh Bhatt admits he has a penchant for launching new faces. “I have loved launching new people all my life. I have an appetite for promoting young talent.”

The maverick filmmaker reveals how he and his creative team shortlist an idea. “We work in a variety of ways. I’m open to be influenced by the ideas of my creative team. If an idea holds mettle, we go ahead, discuss it, and shape it up.”

He has made masala movies, comedies, thrillers, and what not! But real life stories inspire him the most. “I make films on real life more often because it is more dramatic than imaginary world. And that’s what makes it convincing and exciting.”
