Mumbai: The Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika starrer, Chennai Express, is officially the biggest Bollywood blockbuster of all time. While climbing to that enviable position, the film beat Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots which had earned Rs. 202.47cr at the domestic market. At the end of the third week’s run, Chennai Express had already brought in 202.67 crore rupees (approximately $35 million). Chennai Express is also the second movie to enter Rs. 200 crore club after 3 Idiots.
Chennai Express has also broken the earlier records set in the overseas market for Bollywood films. Ironically, the record till now stood in the name of SRK whose My Name Is Khan earned a record 32 crore rupees international markets. Chennai Express is expected to overtake that by a mile as it has already collected Rs.72 crore (about $10 million) in nine days.
In New Zealand, it made NZ$ 189,378 and A$ 573,592 in Australia in the first two weeks. Similarly, it earned £ 14,33,245 in the UK in the second week of its release. According to reports, the film still has some legs and the final numbers will be even more impressive.
Chennai Express was released in 670 screens outside India.
