Culturally-sensitive extended care facility in the works by PICS

In a meeting at Progressive Intercultural Community Services (PICS) Society Senior’s Housing Facility on Saturday, July 19, PICS announced a culturally-sensitive extended care facility. PICS has purchased 3.5 acres of land in Cloverdale. More than 40 people attended the meeting.

Jason Kenney, Minister of Employment and Social Development and Minister for Multiculturalism, dropped by and brought greetings from the Prime Minister Stephen Harper, stating, “The government of Canada congratulates PICS for doing such a wonderful project. It’s not only for multicultural seniors, but it is a humanitarian service for the whole of Canada. The government of Canada supports such a wonderful initiative.”

Kenney had a wonderful discussion to address community issues presented by PICS Society Board of Directors. He appreciated PICS’ service to the community for the past 28 years and said: “We will certainly support the culturally-sensitive project started by PICS.”

PICS’ CEO Charan Gill thanked Kenney for his personal and official support and for listening seriously to the issues presented by the board.

PICS says this project will save taxpayers money and will be a great facility for the Lower Mainland and B.C. seniors. It said: “We are pleased to inform everyone that the federal, provincial and local municipal support is there. We believe the project will materialize soon and will be a great success. This project will ease pressure from Surrey Memorial Hospital and other hospitals around the Lower Mainland by providing this cultural appropriate service – a first of its kind in B.C. Mr. Gill urged the community to come behind this project regardless of their political or religious affiliations as this project will provide services to all who need this type of facility.
