Mississauga: Police shot 15-year-old boy, SIU called in for investigation

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. _ The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in after it says a Peel regional police officer shot a 15-year-old boy in Mississauga, Ont.

An SIU spokesman says the teenager is in hospital in serious but stable condition.

Mississauga police shooting

Jason Gennaro says Peel officers got a call around 1:50 a.m. about a robbery at a gas station in a plaza (at Britannia Road and Creditview Road).

He says there were three young males on scene, but two of them fled in a grey vehicle before police arrived.

Gennaro says the third tried to rob another establishment and tried, but failed, to get into three vehicles with people inside.

When police arrived he says there was an “interaction” in which one Peel officer fired at least one shot and the 15-year-old was hit.

The provincial agency investigates all reports of death, serious injury and sexual assault involving police.

It is appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

The two other young males have not yet been found.
