Pakistan Has Highlighted Kashmir Issue With 'New Spirit': QureshiForeign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi also said that Pakistan will continue providing moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people.

Qureshi, who was in his hometown Multan for the Eid-ul-Azha festival, dismissed reports in the Pakistani media that said the Kashmir issue was dropped from the UN’s agenda.

The issue is still on the world body’s agenda and reports that said it had been dropped were baseless, he told reporters.

The Pakistan government has highlighted the Kashmir issue with a “new spirit” and in such a way that it had “resonated across the world,” he claimed, adding that Kashmiri leaders were satisfied with the role played by Pakistan.

Responding to a question on US President Barack Obama’s visit to India, he said it was a scheduled trip.

“Both Pakistan and Indian are enjoying relations with the US through their own perspectives,” he said.

Pakistan “retains equal importance in the region,” he contended.

Obama could have visited Pakistan during his visit to South Asia but decided to visit the country separately in 2011 as it “has its own importance in the region,” Qureshi claimed.

On another issue, Qureshi said talks were possible with insurgents who are ready to hold parleys after laying down weapons and accepting the government’s writ.

“Our main motto is to promote peace, harmony and prosperity in the region,” he said.
