In the recently released list of the world’s 100 most powerful women, comprising politicians, businesswomen, celebrities and other influential luminaries, compiled by American business magazine Forbes, India’s Congress Party leader Sonia Gandhi is placed seventh, three rungs below Indian-American CEO of PepsiCo Indra Nooyi who was placed fourth. At the top of the list once again is German Chancellor Angela Merkel who has earned this distinction for the sixth time in the last seven years.
ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar finds a place in the 43rd place while Kiran Mazumdar Shaw of Biocon is at the 99th spot. “Our list reflects the diverse and dynamic paths to power for women today, whether leading a nation or setting the agenda on critical issues of our time,” Moira Forbes, president & publisher of ForbesWoman, was quoted as saying. 65 Americans featured in the list.
