In yet another incident of drugs being smuggled into India through trains coming from Pakistan, the Indian customs authorities seized 3 kg heroin from the Samjhauta Express at Attari railway station on Thursday. Glaringly, the consignment of drug was seized from a cavity which was made on top of the cabin of the train guard. Although the customs authorities denied any involvement of the Pakistani guard and claimed that although the statement of the guard with the train was recorded but let off later.
Confirming the incident, Additional Commissioner of the Customs, SM Akhtar said, “ever since the fake currency was recovered from a Pakistan goods train few days back, our officials at the Attari station were very vigilant. We also had some tip-off and working on that only extensive checking was on and that led to this recovery.” On a question regarding the seizure from the cabin of the guard, the officer said, “we are looking into it and go into the minute details of the incident.”
It may be mentioned that a few days ago fake currency was seized from a Pakistani goods train. A customs official at the Attari Railway station said, ‘the seizure was made from the guard’s cabin which was just next to the train engine. The total consignment was in six packets. We have taken the statement of the guard and we are now releasing him since there was no connivance found.”
