Dalai Lama in Delhi for eye check-up

New Delhi: Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama Thursday arrived here for an examination of his eyes, an aide said. “It is routine (examination). His health is fine,” said Tenzin Taklha. He said the Dalai Lama would be in Delhi for a few days.
Tempa Tsering, the Dalai Lama’s representative in New Delhi, said the Tibetan leader flew from Pathankot in Punjab. He refused to name the hospital where the Dalai Lama would be taken.
An official in the Dalai Lama’s office said he could not take off from the Gaggal airport near here due to inclement weather. He travelled by road from Dharamsala, headquarters of the Tibetan government-in-exile, to Pathankot, some 80 km away.
The 76-year-old Nobel laureate underwent a gall bladder surgery at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi Oct 10, 2008. In August the same year, he was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai twice with abdominal discomfort.
The Dalai Lama fled Tibet and took refuge in India when Chinese troops moved in and took control of Lhasa in 1959.
